Jumping The Broom (2011)

Jumping The Broom is a drama about a couple Sabrina Watson (Paula Patton) makes a plea to God to send her a good man that she could marry. By chance, she meets Jason Taylor (Laz Alonzo). The two have a quick courtship and get engaged when she gets a job offer to move to China. They head to Martha’s Vineyard for the wedding. This is the opportunity for Sabrina and Jason’s families to meet. Sabrina’s family is rich. Sabrina’s parents are Claudine Watson (Angela Bassett) and Mr. Watson (Brian Stokes Mitchell). I’m sorry I can’t remember his first name. Jason’s mother isn’t rich. Pam (Loretta Devine) works at the post office with her friend Shonda (Tasha Smith). Pam is very hot tempered and isn’t fond of Sabrina since she never met her before. When the families meet, things go awry. Claudine and Pam take an instant disliking to each other. Pam felt excluded from the wedding plans and had no trouble expressing her feelings about it. She requested that Jason and Sabring jump the broom at their wedding. This request doesn’t go over well. Sabrina and Jason want to start their own tradition. Pam wants to do everything she can to stop the wedding. A secret falls in her lap to help her carry out her plan.

In addition to the wedding, Claudine and Mr. Watson are dealing with marital issues, which increase when he drops a bomb on her. Adding to Claudine’s problems is her sister Geneva (Valerie Pettiford) who shows up for the wedding. Claudine feels as if she causes nothing but trouble and doesn’t want her to ruin Sabrina’s wedding. Can Jason and Sabrina find happiness despite the fact that their families have issues with each other? Will the revelation of a secret break them up?
